Is Ceramic Coating Worth It?

Sometimes, genuinely, no. Here is when a coating is worth your money and when we will tell you to spend it somewhere else.

A coating is worth it when it is protecting paint that is worth protecting, and when the car’s life actually exposes it to the things a coating defends against.

Worth it when

  • The car is new or the paint is in good condition
  • It lives outdoors, under trees, or near industry or building sites
  • You want washing to be quicker and less risky
  • You are keeping the car for several years
  • You care how it looks in direct sunlight

Probably not worth it when

  • The clear coat is already failing or peeling — a coating cannot fix that
  • The car is about to be sold and a sealant would present just as well
  • It is a short-term lease you will hand back in months
  • You genuinely will not change how you wash it

That last point matters more than people expect. A coating makes a car much easier to wash safely, but running it through an automatic brush wash every fortnight will still wear it down early. If nothing about your routine will change, the honest maths is weaker.

What it will not do: stop rock chips, stop a car park dent, or remove existing swirls. Correction removes swirls; the coating stops new ones forming as easily.
