Coating Warranties, Explained

A coating warranty is a real thing, but it covers less than most people assume. Here is exactly what it does and does not mean.

A manufacturer-backed coating warranty covers the coating — that it will remain bonded and performing for the rated term when it has been applied by a certified applicator and maintained as specified. It is not an insurance policy on your paint.

What it covers

  • The coating remaining bonded to the paint for its rated term
  • Continued hydrophobic and protective performance
  • Rectification if the coating itself fails prematurely

What it does not cover

  • Rock chips, dents, scratches and accident damage
  • Damage from automatic brush washes or harsh chemicals
  • Paint that was already failing before coating
  • Neglect — droppings or sap left to etch for weeks
  • Anything applied over the coating by someone else

What keeps it valid

Two things: certified application, and maintenance. Both GYEON and ONYX require the applicator to be trained and certified, which is why these products are not sold retail. Most warranties also require a periodic inspection or maintenance service, which is a good idea regardless — it is how we catch a problem while it is still small.

We register the warranty for you and give you the documentation and the wash routine in writing. If anything ever looks wrong, bring it back and we will look at it.
