Headlight Restoration

Yellowed, hazy headlights make a good car look tired and genuinely reduce how much light reaches the road. Restoring them is one of the highest-impact jobs we do.

Headlight lenses are polycarbonate with a factory UV coating on the outside. Melbourne sun breaks that coating down, and once it fails the plastic underneath oxidises — which is the yellow, cloudy look. Supermarket restoration kits polish the haze off but leave the plastic unprotected, so it goes yellow again within months.

How we do it properly

We wet-sand the lens back through progressive grades to remove the failed coating and the oxidised layer entirely, machine-polish it to full clarity, then apply a proper UV-stable protective coating. That last step is the one the kits skip, and it is the only reason the result lasts.

  • Progressive wet-sand to remove the oxidised layer
  • Machine polish to genuine optical clarity
  • UV-stable sealing coat so it does not re-yellow
  • Noticeably better light output at night
  • A fraction of the cost of replacement headlight units

It is also a very worthwhile job before selling a car — clear headlights are one of the first things a buyer reads as ‘well looked after’.
